Lady of the lake Feel her calling you Lady of the lake ’Tis not my fault You followed me 'Tis not my fault Just the way it’s always been ’Tis all your fault You chose to worship me ’Tis all your fault You fell in love with me Lady of the lake Feel her calling you Lady of the lake See how she’s there for you Lady of the lake See how she cares for you Lady of the lake 'Tis all but gone The way it has to be 'Tis all but gone Now leave the rest to fate 'Tis all but gone Your heart replaced with hate 'Tis all but gone The love you held for me Lady of the lake Feel her calling you Lady of the lake See how she’s there for you Lady of the lake See how she cares for you Lady of the lake There’ll be some you can help And some will defy There’ll be some who rise up And those that will hide There’ll be some that will smile And those that will cry But at least you can rest just knowing you tried

about

A late addition to the album, Magnified; Lady of the Lake was one of those songs that almost wrote itself, and as soon as the idea came together the Kennedy/Birks co-writers knew that they had to get back into the studio to record it for the album. The piano melody and production ideas came first, with Jess writing this alone in her Dalston apartment, followed by Amy’s lyrics and vocal melody, which were written separately on a trip to Confolens. Lady of the Lake tells of disconnect, difference of opinion and the demise of a relationship. Amy uses a mystical figure to portray how the male perceives the female in the relationship, who is also seen as a seductress and somewhat dismissive in character ’Tis all your fault, you chose to worship me...’Tis all your fault, you fell in love with me', although the lyrics have been written sympathetically towards the woman. Amy sides with the mystical creature; 'There’ll be some that will smile and those that will cry, but at least you can rest just knowing you tried'. The chorus 'Lady of the Lake, see how she cares for you...See how she’s there for you’ tells of torment; that although the man knows it’s over, he is still drawn to her qualities. The story is supported by the emotive expression in the music, and the delicate, almost hypnotic vocal counter melodies add to the unearthly and ethereal sound.

about

Beatrix Players London, UK

Beatrix Players make florid, adventurous music that operates at the interface between folk rock, singer-songwriter acoustica, prog and quasi-classical baroque chamber pop. There is a light, translucent quality to the music, and yet when it is not being hushed and reverent, it has the attack and thrust, the surging dynamism, of rock. It can be soft and intimate, yet fiery, intense and immense. ... more
